Specialty Meets this Week
Last night (Monday), we brought a 4x8, a 4x2, and a 4x4 to the Mustang Relays at North Central College.
The 4x8 (Nitti, Meehan, J. Hernandez, Halden) set a season best at 8:02.9. This placed 6th out of 30 in the meet (but is also the 6th best time in Illinois and the 75th best time in the nation!
The 4x2 (Ellens, Mohammad, Martin Scott, Guzman) also set a season best with a time of 1:34.75. This placed 10th at the meet (out of 30 teams) and also broke the top 50 times in the state.
The 4x4 (Nitti, Martin Scott, Blew, Melms) also placed 6th out of 30 teams, setting a season best, and cracking the top 20 times in the state. Way to go, gentlemen!
See the full results as well as video footage of these races!
On Friday, we will bring Tim Meehan, Matt King, Graham Faris, Liam Grady, Anthony Nitti, and Charlie Halden to run the mile and Ryan Fader to run the 2 mile at Distance Madness at Batavia. See the Schedule and Heat Sheets here!
Food Drive Kick-Off Wednesday
Thank you to Lisa Carpenter for coordinating our food drive drop-off with the Glen House Food Pantry.
We will kick off our food drive to the team tomorrow, Wednesday
We will collect food pantry donations through March 14th (Thursday of next week) at our pasta party
Donating in paper bags (like those found at Trader Joe's or Mariano's) makes donating easier!
See the image below for March's top needs. Thank you all for your help as we aim to bring 100+ families together to help our local community.

Weekly Awards from Last Week
Between our home meet on Wednesday and Fridays invite on Friday, last week was one of the best week's of competition I've ever witnessed out of this team. We had an incredible number of PR's from our first home meet to this one, and we placed 2nd as a team (out of 8 strong teams) at Batavia's invite. Here are our weekly awards:
Pictured: (James Morris, Jacob Blew, Sean Stevens, Tim Meehan, Nolan Borgman, Ben Schoettle)

Runner of the week: Mason Ellens. "This week's runner of the week had a crazy good performance at the Coach Di invite, being the second highest-scoring individual at the meet. He is also 0.01 seconds away from our 55m school record (behind Tyquan Cox), while also standing at 6th in the state. He followed up with a great performance in the 4x2 and then finished the meet off with another PR in the 200 and a state ranking of 16. He also has the indoor school record for the 200. Congrats, Mason!" - Captain Rayan Mohammad
Field athlete of the week: James Morris. "This week's field athlete of the week goes to a thrower who had a monster PR in shot put at our home meet last week. He threw 3 feet over his season best at home and did an amazing job at Batavia as well. Congrats, James!" - Captain Mihir Sharma
Captain's Award: Nolan Borgman. "The Captain's award is going to someone who is new to the team and showed a load of enthusiasm that quickly caught on with his idea for the "he's a freshman" chant during the 4x4. He's got the team spirit that every team wishes they had. Congrats to Nolan Borgman!" - Captain Ben Saucedo
Fire in the eyes: Jacob Blew for anchoring that amazing 4x4 (check out the video!) at the Coach Di invite, making great moves throughout the race and almost catching the leader in the very last moment. If the race had been 1 foot longer, he would have secured the win! Congrans, Blew!
Awesome Award: Tim Meehan for an incredible 800 (finishing 2nd to Nitti in 1:59.44, currently ranked 10th in the state), Ben Schoettle for being the fastest freshmen hurdler at the invite and rocking a steller 3-second PR in the 4x400 relay, and Mr. PR Man himself (Sean Stevens) for hitting yet another PR in the Pole Vault. He's PR'd at every single meet he's been at!
That's all for this week. As always, I am extremely proud of this group of young men. Please let me know if you have any questions!
All the best,
Coach Voland
