Awards from 2/21 Batavia Open

Each week, we will recognize a handful of athletes for exceptional efforts at our meets. Our team captains have selected the following athletes from the 2/21 Batavia Open.
Runner of the week: BEN SCHOETTLE - "This runner has started off the season with some super dominant and incredibly strong performances at Batavia High School. He won the 55 and came back an hour later to PR in the 200. Proving himself to be one of the top sprinters in the state. We can't wait to see what kind of incredible performance he has waiting. This week's Runner of the Weekend is Ben Schoettle." - Matt King
Field athlete of the week: POLE VAULT CREW - "Two years ago we only had 3 Vaulters at the Batavia coed, and A year before that our highest vaulter jumped 9 feet at Batavia. This year we had 6 total vaulters, everyone cleared a bar, we went 1 2 3 and 4 in the first flight, and two vaulters are an inch off of state qualifying height. This is going to be a great year for pole vault. I can't wait to see how this year turns out. This week's field athlete goes to the vaulters." - Bode Haber
Fire in the eyes: KEATON PETER - "Coming back to track after another sport isn’t easy. This runner just came back to track after swimming for months and has been dealing with back injuries. Despite this he was able to push through and succeed in the 400 meter. We know he’s going to be an important part of the 4by4 later in the season and we know times are only going to get quicker. Fire in the eyes is going to Keaton peter" - Jordan Ademuyiwa
Captain’s Award: HAMZAH MOHAMMED - "Often Juniors don't just join a new sport and fully commit. They might do it just to be with friends but they rarely join and just fully jump into it. However this week's captain's award goes to a kid who in their first year has already fully committed. He both vaulted and ran a PR in the 800, while fasting for ramadan. This week's Captain's award goes to Hamzah Mohammed" - Luke Dupuy
Awesome Award: LUKE RITZENTHALER - "One of the hardest events in track and field is the 400, and this weeks awesome award winner ran it right after running the 4x200. He ran great in his 400 despite running the 4x2 right before it, almost breaking 60. I can't wait to see what this freshman does the rest of the season. This week's awesome award goes to Luke Ritzenthaler!" - Keaton Peter
