  • All who are not competing in the Arnold on Saturday will compete in this meet. Some might compete at both meets. Athletes have been notified if they are competing.

  • Athletes not competing should plan on supporting our seniors, working an event, and cheering on their teammates at today's meet

  • Field events begin at 4:30, Running events begin at 5:00

  • Athletes should arrive at 3:15. Field events and distance events will want to warm up before the senior celebration, and sprinters will need to meet with coach Mastandrea at the outdoor white board to iron out open events and relays

Important Date Changes for the V/FS Conference Meet and our Team Banquet:

  • The V/FS WSC Conference Meet will take place in a few weeks at York High School on Thursday, May 9th

  • Distance night in Palatine was last Saturday! Nitti and Meehan (800), Halden (1600), and Faris (3200) runners did an incredible job!

  • Runner of the week: Chase Martin Scott for his effort in the 300H at Red Grange. After a 1 second PR the week before, he hit another 2 second PR at Red Grange. He now has the fastest 300 hurdle time on our team since 2018 (as a freshman!) and is only about a half second from state qualification. Way to go, Chase!

  • Field athlete of the week: Luke Benson for winning flight A in triple jump at Red Grange and having 4 consistent jumps at 45 feet. These were all at or near his PR and were also well over the state qualification mark. A 47 foot jump is just around the corner!

  • Fire in the eyes: Vince Schoettle for persevering through what appeared to be a rough couple of hurdle races. Vince went down in his races but got back up without missing a beat. He responded with fire in his eyes and will reach success thanks to his adversity, not in spite of it. We are proud of you, Vince! Your improvement curve in the hurdles has been truly impressive.

  • Captain's Award: Liam Grady for seriously supporting his teammates at Distance Night in Palatine. Not only that, but he even went the extra mile and helped several other teammates support those competing as well. Thanks for being a true team supporter, Liam.

  • Awesome Award:

  • Spencer Melms for running a PR 400 and somehow teleporting from the back of the pack to the front in the last 150 meters

  • Tim Meehan for a big PR in the 800 (1:58.89) to secure our team's best effort so far this season

  • Graham Faris for a huge 4-second PR in the 3200 (9:36.987), which is just 3 seconds from state qualification

  • Charlie Halden for a PR in the 1600 at 4:18 from a brutal, physical race. Well under state qualification!

Athletes: Coach Miles will be competing at Marmion Academy this Sunday in a Special Olympics T&F Competition. His events are: 100m run (12:00 pm on home stretch of the track) and the softball throw (2:15 pm in the open field north of the track). If you would like to organize a group to so support, please let me know!

That's it for this week. Please let me know if you need anything.

All the best,

Coach Voland
