St. Jude Fundraiser, led by Ben Schoettle
Hello Friends and Family,
I am a Sophomore at Glenbard West and have been inspired to give back by an upperclassman who raised funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Realizing that I could make a difference in the fight against childhood cancer inspired me to become involved and so I applied, interviewed, and have been accepted into the St Jude Leadership Society. There are three main goals for the SJLS: leadership development, mentor/peer experience and transformational fundraising.
For my fundraising goal I am selling 'EVERY STEP COUNTS’ t-shirts that I designed as a reminder to myself that every time I train or compete, I can do my part to help provide for St. Jude families. I hope you will join me by purchasing a shirt and wearing it proudly, knowing that whether you run, walk your dog, play tennis, etc. your steps will make an impact.
Your donation helps support the lifesaving work of St. Jude. Because of this support, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - so they can focus on helping their child live.
Thank you for reading and for your consideration. Your donation makes a difference!
- Ben Schoettle

Celebrations
Each week, we will recognize a handful of athletes for exceptional efforts at our meets. Our team captains have selected the following athletes from last week's home meet to be recognized.

Runner of the week: SAM ROSER - This week the runner of the week is a distance guy who had a great PR in the 2 mile. He is just a sophomore and keeps dropping time through his hard work. He ran a very good race taking home the win in the B heat at WWS. This week the runner of the week is Sam Roser. - Brandon Carpenter
Field athlete of the week: OWEN ASHMORE - This guy had a great meet at red grange last week jumping a pr of 1.8m and then coming back to run great in the 4x4 and the 4x2. This guy has been a major part of the team which is why the field athlete of the week is Owen Ashmore. - Graham Faris
Captains Award: NOLAN BORGMAN - This kid is great, very positive guy. After running a 400m open he volunteered to follow CMTs spot on the 4x4, which is a hard double to do (not to mention he did high jump too) it's hard to get yourself to want to run a 4x4 that late at night when it's cold. - Jacob Blew
Fire in the eyes: SPENCER MELMS - This kid made a season debut in the 400, which also happened to be his season debut on the track after battling and recovering from injury. He went out hard, felt the monkey crawl on his back, but pushed through and raced hard. Hit a 53 on his first race of the season. Welcome back, Spencer Melms! - Coach Voland
Awesome Award: KRISHTIAN SINGH - This kid is an up and coming athlete, already as a current freshmen. He ran a 24.16 on a cold night in 200, which is a healthy 23 as a freshmen. He is also an accomplished long/triple jumper, the best in his class. - James Morris
That's it! Remember to bookmark www.gwtrackandfield.com and join our Remind to stay connected.
Not doing track? Please let me know so I can remove you from this list and finalize our roster.
All the best,
Coach Voland
