Hello everyone,

Here is some important information for this week:

Haake Invitational @ Home on Friday

  • Participating teams: Glenbard East, Glenbard South, Wheaton North, Willowbrook

  • Non-Scored, Hand-Timed, and Open in Nature

  • Everyone should plan on competing!

  • If athletes don’t already know what they are running, they will find out tomorrow. And like last time, it will be easy to add/switch events if needed on Friday

  • Running events AND Field events start at 4:15. Anticipated end time: 7:30

  • Team meeting will be at 3:15, but throwers should begin warming up at that time

  • Order of events: 4x800, 4x100, 3200, 110 High Hurdles, 100, 800, 4x200, 400, 300 Intermediate Hurdles, 1600, 200, 4x400

  • Shot, Disc, Long, and Triple will all be cafeteria style with 3 attempts -- no finals

Practice Wednesday at Normal Time This is just a quick note to parents (and a reminder to athletes) that we do still have practice on Wednesday. It will be at 3:00, our normal practice time. Pasta Party on Thursday! We have another entire-team pasta party on Thursday in the Glenbard West cafeteria. Athletes should arrive no earlier than 4:20, but should be ready to eat at 4:30! We will be done eating and cleaned up by 5:30. Looking forward to great food and even better company! Celebrations We have had a lot of incredible efforts and performances in the last few weeks of competition that I'd like to share with you all: First, I'd like to share some highlights that we went over before our last meet about the Bulldog Relays:

  • The indoor 4x200 ran 1:39.5 - A great run and solid improvement for that entire group. Frankie Iarrobino and Jacob Blew both had massive PRs for a 200 at about 1 second and 1.7 seconds

  • The 4x400 ran 3:44, our 3rd best indoor time of the season. Jacob Blew had another solid PR by about 2 seconds!

  • The Distance Medley (1200-400-800-1600) ran 11:19, got 4th overall, and also featured some incredible PRs. In that relay, Brandon Carpenter improved by 5 seconds in the 400 and Graham Faris improved by about 10 seconds (!!) in the 1600

  • Finally, our 4x800 won the meet with a time of 8:06.74. All 4 runners got a PR (Reifel by 1.8 seconds, Meehan by 2.1 seconds, Nitti by 1.63 seconds, and Halden by a blistering 10.1 seconds). This 4x800 is the 5th best indoor 4x800 time in the STATE!

Next, we celebrated over 50 lifetime bests in the first week of outdoor. This is especially impressive because I did not count first-time efforts. Additionally, most athletes aren't supposed to be able to beat their outdoor best from the previous season until a bit later in the current season. Tremendous efforts all around! Finally, our captains named the following athletes for our weekly awards:

  • Runner of the week: Rayan Mohammad for running a PR in the 100 and 200 while fasting (no food or water) during Ramadan

  • Field athletes of the week: Ben Saucedo for a double PR in shot put (a total of 2 feet!) and Jamarcus Kelly for a 2-ft PR in long jump

  • Captain's Award: Mike Interlandi for filling in at the last minute to run the 100 and 200 in addition to already pole vaulting. He also agreed to run a 4x200 while waiting in line for a Gatorade (thinking his day was done). Way to step up for the team!

  • Fire in the eyes: Frankie Iarrobino for an incredible 300H and 4x400 effort (which he also agreed to run last minute) and Jed Bentinganan for giving it his all despite the fact that both of his calves completely cramped up during his 4x400 leg. The grit and determination here was contagious!

That is all for now. As always, please consider joining my Remind for last-minute updates by texting the message @dvoland to the number 81010. Have a great evening! All the best, Coach Voland
