With that being said, we have a LOT of athletes who are poised to qualify (and place!) at the state meet this year. You can review the meet schedule at www.gwtrackandfield.com.
Bring spikes EVERY DAY to practice during the outdoor season. You never know when we might need them, even if only for a few minutes! (Quarter-inch spikes are welcome!)
Bring warm gear for warm-ups. We will go outside every day unless we have inclement weather.

Recap of Bulldog Relays and Prep Top Times
Bulldog Relays:
Highlights: O'Donnell, Tedford, Ho, Swick got 4th in the 4x800, Mocko, Tedford, Cabral, and Roser got 3rd in the DMR.
Lots of great splits from kids who were new to this meet!
Illinois Indoor Championships:
400m Dash: Chase Martin Scott ran a PR in the 400 with a time of 50.69, which was good for 15th in the meet. The Illinois Indoor Championships! This beats last year’s indoor school record by over half a second!
200m Dash: Ben Schoettle ran 22.13 in the 200, a PR in the event, good enough for 7th in the meet. This time beats the previous school record, set by Mason Ellens last year. If it wasn’t for Jordan’s 22.03, it would be our current indoor school record and currently sits 2nd on our all-time indoor list.
60m Hurdles: In the 60m Hurdles, Ben Schoettle ran a 7.73. How fast is that??
New School Record
Even faster than his own 55m hurdle record set last year (7.77). In other words, he ran a longer race FASTER than a shorter 55m hurdle race last year.
This time WON the Indoor Illinois championships against insane competition
Currently ranked #12 in the United States
Currently ranked #1 in the state of Illinois
Currently the fastest 60m hurdle time ever run by a high school athlete, in Illinois’ history!

Weekly Awards from Indoor Conference Week:

Runner of the week: JORDAN ADEMUYIWA / BEN SCHOETTLE -- "This week's runner of the week goes to two athletes. One of them competed in four events and got a pr in three of them while the other won conference in all three of the events he competed in. They placed top in the state in nearly all of the events, broke several records including the york fieldhouse record and school record, and scored hald of our team points for the meet. Not only that, but they went 1 2 in the 200 meter dash to seal a conference win for the team. No amount of words can describe the impact these kids have had on our team, this week's runners of the week are Jordan Ademuyiwa and Ben Schoettle." - Nolan Borgman
Field athlete of the week: BRAXTON SKUBIC -- "This junior is someone who has really gave it his all throughout indoor, he's showed up, worked hard, and always continues to improve. Saturday this athlete competed and got a pr which would have been 4th overall in the varsity conference. He also won Jv triple jump at his first meet doing it this year, which alone is impressive. Watch out for him during outdoor and next year in varsity this. Field athlete of the week is Braxton." - Bode Haber
Fire in the eyes: JACK SWICK / CHASE MARTIN SCOTT -- "This weeks fire in the eyes award goes to 2 runners who gave it their all in the final lap to help out the team. In the 400, one runner passed 2 people in the last lap to secure 3rd in a stacked heat. In the 600, the other runner passed 3 people in the last lap to secure 6th. Both of these runners had insane kicks to close out their races to get points for the team. This weeks fire in the eyes award goes to Chase Martin Scott and Jack Swick!" -- Keaton Peter
Captain's Award:
PATRICK HIBBARD -- "This weeks captains award goes to a senior runner who has been a great role model and leader for a lot of the younger distance guys to follow. This friday he went out of his way to come to york to cheer on and support the team. The next day he pushed himself in the mile to win his heat with a great kick at the end of his race. Im excited see how he finishes his senior season this weeks award goes to patrick hibbard." - Matt King
NOLAN BORGMAN -- "I also have a bonus Captain's Award. First, on Friday night, this kid did absolutely everything he could to score the one point he knew he needed to score, again, to help our team win the title. He did score that point and we are incredibly proud of him for that. But almost more impressive was the way this kid was aware of every single performance of the night, knew exactly what each kid needed to get in each event, cheered on every kid that he could, and did everything he could to help each kid PR and win at their event. And, not to mention, he got everyone PUMPED after the team scores were announced, and got the bus pumped too on the way home. Thanks for being such a solid leader. We appreciate you, and this bonus captain's award goes to captain Nolan Borgman!" -- Coach Voland
Awesome Award:
KAIN HUNZIKER -- "This kid has been working hard all season. In the last few years, he has notoriously been one of the last few kids in the weightroom, has been asking for harder workouts, and has really worked hard to get better and better. Lately, despite dong everything right this year, he has had a harder time getting those PRs. But last weekend, this kid got a PR in the 55 dash, came back for a big PR in the 400, came back again for a big PR in the 200, and then ran a 4x400 after the 200 (which we don't recommend), and got a PR split, faster than the 400 he ran earlier that day. This kid had an awesome day and we are all very proud. This week's awesome award goes to Kain Hunziker!" -- Coach Voland
MATT KING -- "A bonus Awesome Award goes to another athlete who went above and beyond to help our team win the conference title. Very rarely do distance runners double in the 2 mile and the 1 mile. And even more rare is a situation where someone ends up scoring in both events at a big track meet. The competition for distance in our conference is about as big as it gets. So for this runner to WIN the 2 mile in our conference and then come back in the mile and still score 4th place -- the precise place he knew HE needed to score the points we needed to win the meet -- was incredible. Way to run with everything you had for the benefit of the entire team. This Awesome Award goes to Matt King!" -- Coach Voland
