WSC Champions Last Week!!

Congrats again to EVERYONE for an incredible weekend at the WSC Conference Championships. An impressive victory on Friday night and a Saturday morning full of personal and season bests.
Winning this title was truly a historical moment:
Our last conference victory was back in 1978, 48 years ago, when Disco was huge, the Cold War was ongoing, and Apple was just getting started.
Before 1978, we also won the conference title in 1927 (Roaring Twenties in full swing), 1933 (Deep in the Great Depression), and 1935 (tensions rising prior to WW2).
Congrats again! I'm very proud of every coach, proud of every athlete, and thankful for the support that parents/guardians have given our athletes.
Weekly Awards from Proviso West on 3/13

Each week, we will recognize a handful of athletes for exceptional efforts at our meets. Our team captains have selected the following athletes from last week's home meet to be recognized.
Runner of the week: AUSTIN CHECK -- "This weeks runner of the week is one of the most dedicated underclassmen on distance. He has contantly been improving every race and is not shy in putting in the extra work at morning practice. This week at Proviso he broke the five minute barrier a big achievment for a freshman and Something that is not usually done in the indoor season. Cant wait to see more big time races, this weeks award goes to Austin Check."
Field athlete of the week: QUINN PETER -- "This weeks field athlete of the week is a kid who just came out to track this week, and despite being with us for such a short amount of time and only getting to practice for a couple days, got a PR in the high jump after jumping for the first time in a year. He also did this while wearing his running spikes. If you've high jumped you'd understand that that is incredibly hard to do. We're very happy to have him back, and we can't wait to see the progress he'll make throughout the season, especially once he gets jumping spikes. This weeks field athlete of the week goes to Quinn Peter." - Nolan Borgman
Fire in the eyes: JACK JENKS -- "We had two relays in varsity at proviso west this weekend. The first varsity relay had a great race as a whole, but this athlete went back and forth for what seemed seemed like every curve. It was a super fun race to watch, especially with this runners holding pace like a machine. congrats jack jenks for fire in the eyes." - Bode Haber
Captain's Award: ISAAK CALDWELL -- "This week's captain's award goes to a junior who has been working as hard or harder than anyone else since day 1 his freshmen year. He is notoriously one of the last kids in the weight room, doing extra work, cheering on teammates, and covering for teammates in relays. This past week was no different, where he filled in for a teammate in the varsity 4x4. He ran a PR split, had a great stride, and made sure his relay finished with great success. He's a work horse and a true team player. This week's captain's award goes to Isaak Caldwell!" - Coach Voland
Awesome Award: ELLIOT LOCKE -- "This weeks awesome award goes to a senior who has been working hard and been a great teammate. This runner ran an almost 10 second pr in the distance madness 2 mile race on Friday, breaking 10 minutes. Despite already running, following that race, he drove almost an hour from Batavia to proviso west to cheer on his teammates and help out at the meet. He's a big part of our distance crew and we're excited to see what he'll run the rest of the season. This weeks awesome award goes to Elliot Locke!" - Keaton Peter
